Introduction
In Thy the North Sea Trail is indicated by the name Nordsøstien and runs from Agger Tange to Bulbjerg between harsh but beautiful dunes.
|
The stretch is 80 km long in a coastal landscape with varied terrain. Over long stretches the route follows the old emergency road which is a carriage track connecting the fishing villages on the coast. The emergency road was constructed in the mid-19th century and was used when the rescue team had to go and help in the event of stranding and shipwrecks. |
Fishing villages with their characteristic building style tell the story of man’s struggle to earn a living from the sea. The picturesque surrounding dune heath with expansive views and rich plant and animal life bears witness to the sand drift which forced farms and fields further inland. The dune heaths and forests through which the route passes are the result of a determined effort to control the sand. Today large parts of this landscape are uninhabited and are attractive to ramblers because of their great beauty . |
