Østfold

Introduction

Measured in square metres, Østfold is one of the smallest counties in Norway but it has one of the largest populations.

Walking the North Sea Trail

The coastal path in Østfold constitutes a part of the North Sea Trail and is mainly established as a continuous trail of known paths and small roads. The path runs through areas where you can enjoy beautiful coastal nature and interesting historical monuments and relics. And, as already mentioned: The path takes you through the towns of Halden, Fredrikstad and Moss.

Getting there and public transport

Østfold is situated midway between the major cities of Gothenburg and Oslo. The Oslo-Gothenburg Railway line serves the four biggest towns of the county: Halden, Sarpsborg, Fredrikstad and Moss. As a general rule, there are train departures on this line every hour. For more information, visit www.nsb.no

Where to stay and eat

There are plenty of places to stay in the four municipalities which the coastal path weaves through.
