The North Sea Trail on your smartphone or PDA
You can use the North Sea Trail from your own smartphone or PDA by directing your Internet browser to the address http://www.northseatrail.org/pda. From here you will have access to most of the information that is available on this web site. You can search for articles, display them as dots on a map and click on them to read the full text of the original articles.
The North Sea Trail mobile application is a simple tool that allow you as an owner of an HTML compatible smartphone or PDA to access the content that is available on this site through either interactive maps or text based searches.
The applications front page allows you to choose which interface they want to use: text or map.
The map interface provides you with a near full-screen map image that can be tapped/clicked with the smartphones' or PDAs pointing device (stylus pen or similar). On the top of the map there is a small toolbar offering you a dropdown list where different forms of navigation tools can be selected. Zoom in, Zoom out, Zoom full extent, Pan and Identify are the options.
The toolbar also provides access to a "view"-menu where different layers can be switched on or off for display - much like the interactive map found on this web site. In case you prefer to switch to the textual search interface, a link in the toolbar provides a fast way to do this.
Once you have performed a search or tapped some objects in the map with the Find-function activated you will be presented with a search results list which is grouped by category and which provides links to the individual content articles.
Next to the article name there is also a globe icon which you can click if you want to see the location of the article in the map. This would mainly be relevant if you came from the textual search interface (and not the map).
By tapping the name of the article you will be given a simplified presentation of the article without big graphics, adapted to suit the screen size of your smartphone or PDA.
