Walking the North Sea Trail
The coastline of Aberdeenshire offers a wide range of walking experiences for all ages, interests and abilities.
|
These include the way marked cliff top path between Cruden Bay and Boddam where the spectacular cliff scenery and teeming birdlife offer a rewarding experience for the effort involved or a leisurely walk to the beach through Balmedie Country Park where an all abilities boardwalk allows access to a viewpoint on the seaward edge of the dune system. |
The coastal path south of Stonehaven offers dramatic views of Dunottar Castle in its sea cliff setting as does the path between Portsoy and Cullen on the NorthCoast giving views of ruined FindlaterCastle. You can also appreciate the isolation of the huge beach and dune system north of Aberdeen, which stretches, almost unbroken, to Collieston (20 kilometres) and from Peterhead to Fraserburgh (26 kilometres). These beaches and the adjoining Nature Reserves of Sands of Forvie, Loch of Strathbeg and Waters of Philorth all lie on the North Sea Trail. The many towns and villages along the coast all offer their individual charm and unique identity, which allow the walker to appreciate the long affinity of Aberdeenshire with the North Sea. |
