The Dutch part of the North Sea Trail follows the whole of the Dutch coast over a distance of about 725 kilometres.

Between Nieuweschans and the extreme northeast and Sluis in the southwest you will experience the scenic and cultural variety that even a small country like the Netherlands has to offer hikers. |

The route in Friesland and Groningen is typified by green dikes, extensive arable land, ancient dwelling mound villages, imposing farmhouses and of course the Wadden Sea. The most notable scenic features of Noord- and Zuid-Holland are the long rows of dunes and misty dune valleys, alternating with small fishing villages and bulb fields in full bloom. The route also passes through the historical cities of Haarlem and The Hague. Zeeland is dominated by water: with the famous Delta Works forming the connection between Zeeland’s various peninsulas. Travelling on foot will certainly ensure that you enjoy a close-up experience of the delta with its robust citadels and fortifications. |
