Introduction

The rural district of Karrharde with the parish of Leck as its centre lies along the German-Danish border in the north of Schleswig-Holstein.

The Karrharde consists of a total of 11 parishes with about 15,000 inhabitants. It is an ideal starting point for visiting the western Ox Trail, for interesting day trips to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, the mud-flats of the National Park Wattenmeer, the world of the North Frisian Halligen ( very small low-lying islands) or the island of Sylt, as well as to visit Denmark.

The western Ox Trail leads from Denmark through the town of Tondern via Süderlügum to Leck, through the Langenberger Forest via Soholmbrück, to the east of the village Drelsdorf, across the small river Arlau, via Hollingstedt to Kropp and there links up with the eastern Ox Trail.

The only remaining historical part of the Ox Trail leads from the small town of Leck in a southerly direction to Engerheide in the parish of Enge-Sande.
