Where to Stay and Eat

The area has for long welcomed visitors and has some old-established traditional resorts such as Nairn and Dornoch, both noted for golf.

Inverness, the Highland capital, also has plenty of choice. Places to stay around the Firth not only include everything from budget hostels to exclusive country-house hotels, but also some options with a special Moray Firth flavour.

These include accommodation in a converted herring drifter fishing boat, a (haunted!) 12th-century castle and a former lighthouse-keeper’s cottage.

Local restuarants and hotels offer a wide variety of menus, many offering fine, locally sourced produce and seafood.

VisitScotland, the national tourist board, operates an accommodation grading and booking scheme, enabling the visitor to make an informed choice, whatever the budget.
